The problem didn’t start with the stock market. Yes, the Dow has finally fallen below 7000. Big deal. Wait until it hits 5000. Don’t worry, you’ll be just as bored then as you are now.

The problem is that it started so far up that it takes time for it to build up enough momentum to be noticed. And then there’s the complacent viewpoint of “yeah, but it’s been doing that for so long now that we’re use to it. So what?” Oh, this was back to being about the sky falling, not the Dow…(grin)

I’ve been chicken little-ing you for so long now that I have to look for weird ways of getting your attention. So today’s topic is the iPod earbud headphones. Has anyone but me really noticed just how crappy they are? I mean, it’s a little weird. People will lay out hundreds of dollars for the latest iPod Touch, but do they get the same crappy headphones that I got with the shuffle?

OK, I bought my shuffle when it popped up on Newegg as a rebuilt 1G shuffle for $29.99. But the headphones are the white ones, and I’m pretty sure that Apple doesn’t have different quality level headphone “choices”.  So, all you iPhone owners out there, do you get these crappy Apple headphones too?

There’s a reason I’m asking. I’ll get to that. But I want to know if you’re still using them. Because you DO know that you can go to just about any drugstore or Wally world and buy the cheap Sony earbuds that are like 10 times the quality of these things? Heck they even fit the ear better than these crappy Apple Buds.

But they aren’t “Apple friendly” brand, so I’m betting that lots of iPod and IPhone, if they get headphones, owners are still using them. Because they match expectations.
